maker in residence: lizzy caplan
Celebrating the world of makers is at the very heart of who we are. For the fourth in our Maker in Residence series, we are thrilled to introduce Lizzy Caplan–actor, wife, mom and self-described memory maker. She may be an LA native, but feels right at home on the East Coast…and at The Maker. Here, she shares some highlights from a recent stay, and plays 20 Questions for our The Maker Top Notes.
Photographer Tom captures Lizzy, primping.
Actress Lizzy Caplan, the Emmy-nominated star of Fleishman Is in Trouble and the Showtime series Masters of Sex, enjoyed a getaway at The Maker with her husband, the British actor Tom Riley, to celebrate his birthday and newly acquired dual citizenship. A few friends joined them for a special dinner in our Rose Room—complete with a round of The Maker’s fragrance cocktails and a bespoke-baked American-themed birthday cake for dessert.
What she loves most about The Maker? “That every single detail—the décor, the rooms, the cocktails—are truly perfect. Too much food, too much napping, too much reading by the fire, and being surrounded by beauty and quiet while also being able to get a great cup of coffee is something I deeply appreciate.”
Strike a pose.

Oatmilk flat white, and upwards of 500 gallons of water.

6. what type of fragrance are you attracted to?
I actually have been using Stag which is noteworthy only because it's changed things up, I've been using the same fragrance every day for like 15 years. My signature scent is mainly chocolate and vanilla. Cookies, basically.
Stop wasting time trying to game out every possible outcome for every possible situation. You don't control the universe with your mind, dummy.
You tell me.
Too many are tied for favorite really... Virginia Johnson in Masters of Sex, Casey in Party Down, Annie Wilkes, Libby in Fleishman is in Trouble, a couple more....
Honestly, about 90% of what I say in Fleishman is in Trouble.
Like-minded people. Those who take work and life extremely seriously, without losing the ability to laugh at themselves and see the absurdity in so much of it.
Playing with shadows and light.
12. what turns you off?
The above minus the laughing at themselves bit....
Something with knives and cups? I really dont know anything about tarot cards, but we all appreciate knives and cups!

14. favorite part about the maker?
That every single detail--the decor, the rooms, the cocktails--is truly perfect. No notes.
15. if you hosted a private dinner in our rose room, who would be your dinner guests? (alive or passed)
I've never been able to answer this question...
Too much food, too much napping, too much reading by the fire. And knowing I have at least 3 more days before I have to leave.
Never too much napping (or champagne). Lizzy, relaxing in The Maker Artist Studio.
17. how would you describe your personal style?
Fancy tomboy and sometimes just regular tomboy.
Like-minded people. Those who take work and life extremely seriously, without losing the ability to laugh at themselves and see the absurdity in so much of it.
Pack light, stay nimble. I ve never actually pulled this off in my life, ever, but I've heard it's the way to go!
I am a _memory Maker
